First time running the Ogden Marathon.  Wow, I wish I would have done this a long time ago, what a terrific race.  Paul (prlman), thank you for making this happen, who knows how much longer I may have put this off.  For about the last 7 or 8 years I've been running the Salt Lake Marathon and had no desire to run another marathon 4 weeks later.

Now I have a problem, the Salt Lake Marathon is near and dear to my heart but Odgen is a way better marathon course.  I'll probably run Salt Lake as a training run and save my juice for Ogden.

Since I had just poured everything into SL Marathon a few weeks ago, I knew I didn't have it in me to chase a PR.  My approach was to go out easy, a little under 8 minute pace, check myself at the halfway point and then decide to either throw the hammer down or dial it back and enjoy the scenery.

Halfway I was a few seconds under 1:44 (7:56 pace).  I felt good and decided to push for a negative split.  I barely made it at 1:43:46, negative by 14 seconds.

I'm not nearly as sore today (i'm typing this up Sunday morning) as I usually am after a marathon.  I'm about as sore as I am after a good hard 20 mile training run.  Stairs are no problem.  I don't know if the Ogden course agrees with my body or if I just didn't run hard enough to shred my legs.  Looking back, I don't think I could have run this any faster than I did.

Mike,I was so happy you were able to run this yesterday. I am glad you enjoyed it. I truly believe you are capable of doing as well or better on this course. You are an amazing runner and part of the reason I push myself the way I do,to try and keep up with you.

Ahh, when Paul commented "mike" I now know who you are :) Congrats on a great race! I love Ogden too and this is my 4th running of it. I like it more than SGM as well, and for some reason think it is a lot faster than SGM too. Everyone disagrees with me, but maybe I'm just like you and Ogden just agrees with me :) I'm glad you got to experience this one!

You must've passed me sometime in those last few miles...I was the one whining and crying and running funny :) oh wait..that was all of us, but you! Nice work out there. Next time I'll have to pull myself away from the pops and visit with more people!

Great job! Your miles splits look very consistent and way to negative split!

NICELY DONE!!!! I ran Ogden on 2009 and did not really like it. BUT, after last weekend, I am rethinking that! It is beautiful for sure. It has its tough moments, but I liked the course, too! Of course, i have never run Salt Lake (only the half!) It looks BRUTAL, it is one I am pretty sure I will never run! ;o)

Enjoyed your race report, great splits! I love the Ogden course. Coming off the causeway and down the canyon is a great feeling. I ran the full in 2010 and 2011 and then the half this year. I'm just hoping they don't go to a lottery next year.
